Winter Ready: Tips for Staying Warm and Cozy
Maintain the apartment
After months of heat in Utah, your apartment will need some winterizing for optimal comfort and efficiency (unless you are living here where our on-site maintenance team takes care of it all for you, even filter replacements)! Start by sealing any drafts around windows and doors using weather stripping or caulking. Insulate your windows with kits or heavy curtains to prevent heat loss. Regularly maintain your heating system by replacing filters and scheduling inspections. Lastly, energy-efficient by setting your thermostat to lower temperatures when you're not at home or sleeping. If you live here, our smart thermostat can be controlled right from your phone!
Prep your car
Be prepared! First and foremost, make sure you have a good set of winter tires for solid traction. You never know what can happen on a winter road, so load up your car with some safety items: a first aid kit, a blanket, gloves and hat, emergency water, and a scraper. Make sure someone always has your location in the worst case scenario. If you live at Point of View Apartments, you will get your own parking stall in our climate-controlled garage. This means no scraping off ice and snow in the early hours on your way to work or the slopes!
Cozy up your space
Warming up your apartment with some cozy interior design will make your space a haven to return to after a long day in the cold.
Warm Color Palette: Incorporate rich hues like deep reds, warm browns, and cozy oranges in your décor. These colors create a sense of warmth and comfort that's perfect for the winter season.
Layered Textures: Add layers of texture to your interior. Plush throw blankets, faux fur pillows, and soft area rugs not only provide physical warmth but also give your space a tactile coziness that's perfect for snuggling up on cold days. Find the perfect blanket at Minky Couture right here in Draper.
Candlelight and Ambiance: Use candles in decorative holders, fairy lights, and warm-toned table lamps to create a soothing and romantic atmosphere that counteracts the dark, chilly nights.
Cozy Furniture: A comfortable, overstuffed couch or armchair invites you to curl up with a good book or enjoy a movie night. Add plush cushions for extra comfort.
Seasonal Décor: Hang wreaths on your doors, add a garland with twinkling lights, or place a bowl of pinecones on your coffee table. These touches bring the winter season indoors and make your apartment feel like a winter wonderland.
Warm up the wardrobe
Invest in some good quality outerwear! It will make all the difference if you have a really good quality coat and gloves. For your base layers, pick cozy fabrics like cashmere, wool and flannel. Layers are so important, and the right wool socks are a game changer from skiing to watching a Utes game. We also recommend investing in a puffy down jacket, it can be a great in between layer or just outer layer for taking your dog out to the off-leash dog park. Check out the Outlets at Traverse Mountain or Scheels in Sandy for some great nearby shopping options.
Spice up the kitchen
Stock your kitchen with comforting foods, seasonal produce and warming spices. You never know when you’ll need to hunker down for the day thanks to a big storm. Start with hearty root vegetables like potatoes, carrots, and squash, which can be used in a variety of comforting dishes or soups. Whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and oats provide fiber and long-lasting energy, perfect for keeping warm. Canned soups and stews can be a quick and convenient meal option on cold days, while dried beans and lentils make for a great addition to many warming recipes. Don't forget to include seasonal fruits like citrus, which are packed with vitamin C to boost your immune system and add a touch of brightness to your winter diet. All found at our local grocer Harmons less than 5 minutes from Point of View.
